CNY Pot Plant Recycle Program

Many local businesses and citizens have the custom of buying oranges for decoration during the Lunar New Year, which symbolizes good luck in the new year. However, most of them are discarded after the Lunar New Year, and most of them are sent to landfills for disposal, which not only wastes resources but also increases the burden on landfills.

In view of this, the Environmental Protection Association-Fengyuan Butterfly Conservation Area has been organizing the "New Year's Orange Donation Matching Network" project since 2010 to regenerate New Year's oranges. The project will continue this year, and the New Year's oranges will be matched and donated to local farmers or non-profit organizations in need for planting, which can provide food for butterflies.

If organizations/companies are interested in donating New Year’s oranges, please complete the New Year’s Orange Receipt Form on or before February 10, 2025. If local farmers or non-profit organizations are interested in receiving New Year’s oranges, please complete the online New Year’s Orange Donation Form. The completed physical form can be sent to the Association via email to info@fungyuen.org, fax to 2690-3438, or mailed to “Fung Yuen Nature and Cultural Education Centre, 150 Fung Yuen Village, Ting Kok Road, Tai Po”.

Citizens can continue to plant their own oranges for use next year, which is also a good way to reduce waste. The test results arranged by the Association in the past have shown that the oranges purchased immediately may contain pesticides and are not suitable for consumption.

The final results will be announced by email before February 19. Thank you for participating!
